Meet Trina

Trina Colpitts is a mental health speaker and advocate who strives to help leaders and companies recognize unsafe mental health risks and provide tools for children to cope with mental health challenges. In 2020, Trina lost her husband Jim to suicide – she shared this powerful story via the This Is Actually Happening Podcast.

After this tragedy, Trina launched 500 Miles for Mental Health, which supports mental health projects for children 8–18 years old. The aim of the foundation is to provide tools for children early in their lives to help them cope with mental health challenges, and carry these skills into adulthood.

Trina shares her story and facilitates workshops at corporate events, community gatherings, and mental health initiatives across Canada. Whether the group is large or small, she inspires others to create safer spaces and take meaningful action.

Impact

In 2025, Trina shared Jim’s powerful journey and the impact of 500 Miles for Mental Health with Bird Construction. Her message reached over 500 employees across Canada, sparking meaningful conversations. Here are some of the heartfelt responses from Bird employees:

You may never know the depth to which your commitment and efforts, not just here today, but everywhere you share your voice, story, and intentions in Action go to helping us all. Thank you so much. I took so much from your sharing.

Thank you, Trina! Getting help before you need it is so important. Having your support system in place before you need it is imperative. It is a matter of life and death. This has effected my family in more that one way. Family members with living and managing PTSD and a family member that has died by their own hands.
