Grant Information

Eligibility & Purpose

  • Applications are judged on how well they further the purpose of the foundation.
  • Projects must support mental health for youth ages 8–18.
  • Applications are reviewed by a board made up of educators, mental health professionals, and parents.

Funding Details

  • Grants are entirely funded by donations from 500 Mile Challenge events and participants.
  • Grants of up to $5,000 CAD are available.
  • Operating expenses and capital expenditures are not eligible for funding.
  • Deadline: All applications must be received by December 15.
  • Awards Announced: Grants are awarded by January 31.

The number of grants is determined by the funds raised during the yearly campaign which ends on October 31 each year.

Ideas Generator

  • Create a film about Mental Health, using your phone, by interviewing adults and kids at your school . Click here to see a short film we funded.
  • Create mental health journals for yourself and others to capture thoughts and images
  • Start an, "Are you okay?" campaign (anti-bullying)
  • Create an inspirational Quote Jar for your classroom...put one in if you have one...take one out if you need one
  • Start a social media fast: What will you do with the time? How will it help with your mental health?
  • Launch a lunch-time walking club
  • Host an art therapy club and create an exhibit in your school or take it on the road
  • Start a mental health book club. Read about a book club we funded.
  • Host a film-festival for mental health awareness
  • Plan an event that promotes physical health and its connection to mental health
  • Invite an expert to talk about creating safe places to talk at your school
  • Start a 'Beautify Brooks (or other town)" project to paint murals on the walls in back alleys...this will bring happiness to dull places
